ABOUT VOODOO SCIENCE
Featuring collaborations with artists from across the music spectrum, including: Parthenon Huxley (The Orchestra/ELO Part II, Foreigner, Eels, XTC); Professor Griff (Public Enemy, Last Asiatic Disciples); Greg X. Volz (Petra); vileevils feat. Graham Crabb and Adam Mole (Pop Will Eat Itself); Nort (Cabaret Voltaire (live) and Hula); Kasuf & The Mazz Muvement feat. Kerwin Young (Public Enemy, Mobb Deep); Rom DiPrisco (Skinny Puppy, Richard 'Humpty' Vision) & Jan Pulsford (Cyndi Lauper/Thompson Twins), Voodoo Science is a genre-crashing album that sythesizes the influences of industrial, house, techno, hip hop and art rock.

The album also features remixes from red-hot house/dance producers J-Punch, Datguy, Kris B. & DJ Madison, emerging artists Rigger, DJ Anemone, Dean James and others.

VOODOO SCIENCE (the seven experiments) continues a message of social awareness and personal insurgency, as well as an adherence to the 'anti-art' concept & cut and paste technique of the dadaist art movement. With an often blistering commentary on events of the day, Voodoo Science expounds on themes that in 2007 saw protest rock legend Neil Young include 3kStatic as creators of 'Songs of the Times'.

the title: Although perhaps best known as the title of a book by scientific skeptic Robert L. Park, the term 'voodoo science' was first referenced in a 1984 US government report on juvenile delinquency (see: 'Council Housed and Violent, feat. Vile Evils'), and has its roots in then-candidate George HW Bush's definition of the Reagan 'supply side' fiscal plan as 'voodoo economics'.

This context, along with other events of the day, is one meaning behind the use of this phrase for this album. Another is artistic - the infusion of a large and divergent cast of contributors in the making of this record. And another is the societal constriction of language in shaping preconception and meaning.

The unofficial subtitle 'The Seven Experiments' is a reference to the 1950's era CIA mind control program 'MK Ultra', used here as a reference to the seven singles projected to be issued from the album.

the words: Lyrics from the album are the voice of the lyricist and express the contradictions inherent in art in wartime. The listener should approach the album as one body of work and view in that context accordingly...wherein the message(s) of this work become apparent.

Spoken word elements and short wave radio intercepts are intended for literal interpretation. lyrics which may be 'explicit' (in one way or another) convey the album's concept and urgency in an honest manner. If mere words shock the listener, the point is lost.

The lyrics of 'Ma-Ma-Ma Belle' and 'Showdown' were written by Jeff Lynne and recorded by Electric Light Orchestra 35 years before the release of this album. They are included here in sequence with the album's narrative - and not merely as 'cover' songs - although Lynne and ELO are highly influential and also vastly underrated....

the collaborators: ...As are all of the collaborators who appear on this album - from underground pop genius Parthenon Huxley and seminal artists Kerwin Young & Professor Griff of Public Enemy - to the groundbreaking 'very metal noise pollution' of Adam Mole & Graham Crabb with Pop Will Eat Itself, and arguably the greatest vocalist in arena rock history....Greg X. Volz of Petra.

Each have influenced the sphere of popular music to an exponential degree with little fanfare - as have the originators of dadaist / industrial and 'intelligent dance music' - Cabaret Voltaire.

Those from all genres who open artistic horizons are often pushed aside by charlatans and fakes. This is for the poets and revolutionaries still standing. This is Voodoo Science.

The album should be considered a single two hour, twenty-eight minute work.

on: The constrictions of language and its accomplice the written word, all this regimented information.

Cutup … liberate the word, throw away the rule book and see what happens. Toss the thing back in and see what we get, broaden the whole thing and shatter preconceptions. The sum is not greater than the individual parts, it is something totally different. Infinite possibilities, unique results. The importance of the chance element.

Symbols to use and abuse, ridicule these and throw the taboos back in their faces, remember the more revered the symbol the greater the sacrilege. Machinery … a weapon to use … don't let the best stuff pass by you, no-one here is going back to the land.

Paranoia … the only healthy state in which to exist.

There is a huge plot, but what is it and who is in on it, how much do we know and are we on the right track? "There are agents everywhere." But are you an 'anti-' man?

An atheist is as religious as a Christian.

Admit defeat and you remain under the thumb.

Text paraphrased from The Final Academy, 1982
